Pauline Tufi’s remarkable athletic career at West Anchorage High School has earned her a well-deserved place in the Alaska High School Hall of Fame. A versatile and gifted athlete, Pauline excelled in softball, hockey, volleyball, and track and field, leaving an indelible mark on the state’s athletic landscape.

Pauline’s athletic prowess is highlighted by her three-time Gatorade Softball Player of the Year award (2011, 2012, and 2013), an achievement that solidified her as one of the top athletes in the state. In addition to her softball success, she was an accomplished competitor in hockey, volleyball, and track & field, earning numerous accolades and championships across all disciplines. Her dedication to excellence was apparent in every sport she participated in, and her ability to balance success in multiple sports set her apart from her peers.

“Pauline was not just an athlete; she was a game-changer. She brought leadership and determination to every team she joined,” said Stanley Engel, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at West Anchorage High School. “Her impact extended beyond her athleticism—her heart, leadership, and work ethic made her a true pillar in our community.”

Pauline’s academic success was equally impressive. Graduating with a 3.96 GPA and ranking 11th out of 536 students, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in the classroom. She was a consistent honor roll student for all four years of high school, proving that her discipline and work ethic were just as strong off the field as on it.

In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, Pauline’s contributions to her community have been a testament to her character. She has volunteered with several organizations, including the Salvation Army, Bean’s Café, Lions Club, and the Alaska Run for Women, showcasing her selflessness and dedication to helping others.

As Rob Larkey, P.E. Department Chair and Head Varsity Hockey Coach at West Anchorage High School, shared, “Pauline’s ability to balance academics, athletics, and community service sets her apart as an extraordinary individual. She is a role model, a leader, and a true embodiment of excellence.”

Beyond her athletic success, Pauline’s leadership and compassion were evident in her actions. A perfect example of this was after a championship game at the Alaska High School Classic, when, despite the late hour and the exhaustion of others, Pauline took it upon herself to stay behind and clean up the gym, a selfless act that spoke volumes about her character.

“Pauline embodies all the best qualities we could ask for in an athlete and a community member,” said Stanley Engel. “Her strength, kindness, and dedication to both her teammates and her community make her a true role model.”

Pauline Tufi’s induction into the Alaska High School Hall of Fame honors not just her athletic achievements, but her profound impact on her school, her community, and the state of Alaska. Her legacy as a dedicated athlete, leader, and community servant continues to inspire future generations.
