Haines High School
One letter of recommendation for Kyle Fossman’s nomination to the Alaska High School Hall of Fame suggests that “if ASAA is looking for athletes that exhibited good ethics and high standards of integrity as student athletes then they have found one in Kyle Fossman.”
Another teacher and advisor states that Kyle was “serious about learning and took personal responsibility for it,” “a combination of scholarly and athletic excellence.” The 2010 graduate of Haines High School exhibited this in Basketball, while scoring over 2,000 career points, being selected all 4 years to the Region V 3A All-Conference team, leading his team to State Championship games in 2008 & 2010 (winning their first 3A Championship in 2008), receiving the 3A Alaska Player of the Year award in 2008 and Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year award in 2010 (an unique honor for a 3A player, which also got him a commendation from then Governor Sean Parnell). Kyle also competed in Track, Cross Country and Swimming while at HHS. Additionally, as a student, Kyle was on High Honor Roll (3.75 or higher gpa) for four years and was a National Honor Society member as a junior and a senior, graduating as class Valedictorian.
According to some, Kyle is a “living legend in Haines for his performance during our State Championship winning year, and for his excellence as an assistant coach and head coach for those that followed behind him.”
