Athlete, Hockey, East High School, Anchorage

Scotty Gomez is a hometown boy that realized athletic fame. He was a stellar hockey player for East High School and led them to the 1995 State Championship and runner up in 1996. Both years he was selected as player of the year and made the all-state hockey team. During the 1995-96 season, he was high point scorer.

Scotty went on to play Junior Hockey and eventually was drafted by the NHL in 1998. In his rookie season he was awarded the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie. He also played on the New Jersey Devils team that earned the Stanley Cup. Scotty brought the cup back to Anchorage and shared it with the community. Despite all his accomplishments, he returns each year to East Anchorage and contributes to the community through youth clinics, public appearances and the Scotty Gomez Foundation. He is a superb role model.
