Jackson Lehnhart, a 2013 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, stands among Alaska’s most accomplished multi-sport athletes. A 13-time varsity letter winner and three-time state champion, Lehnhart combined elite performance, academic excellence, and leadership across five sports.
In soccer, Lehnhart capped his high school career with one of the most decorated résumés in state history. He was named the 2013 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year and finished his career as Alaska’s all-time leader in high school goals with 60. A three-time state champion and 2011 State Final Player of the Game, he also earned NSCAA Scholar All-American honors, NSCAA West All-Regional recognition, and multiple ASAA All-Tournament selections. His coach later reflected on his collegiate breakthrough moment, saying, “He took his opportunity and ran with it… Hardest working player at practice all the time. So much respect from all his teammates.”
Lehnhart’s excellence extended well beyond the pitch. In baseball, he helped lead Juneau- Douglas to the 2012 ASAA State Championship, earned multiple Region 5 titles, and was a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist after batting over .500 his senior season. His head baseball coach described him as “a once-in-a-generation athlete” who balanced sports, academics, and family life “in a way I have never seen from a high school student.”
In basketball, Lehnhart was a starting point guard, team captain, Region 5 Champion, and recipient of the Zach Gordon Award—an honor voted on by teammates and presented to the player who best represents the ideals of JDHS basketball on the court, in the school, and in the community. He also earned All-State honors in football and lettered in tennis, demonstrating rare versatility across seasons.
Perhaps most impressive was his ability to compete in both baseball and soccer simultaneously during overlapping seasons. As his coach shared, “He went to baseball and practiced hard. Then, he went to soccer and practiced hard. Never once heard him say, ‘Hey, I already conditioned today.’” That relentless consistency defined his career. A teammate summarized it best: “Jackson’s work ethic is unmatched; every practice, every game, he gave everything he had, setting the standard for what true commitment looks like.”
Academically, Lehnhart graduated from Juneau-Douglas with a 3.96 GPA and represented Alaska at the National Science Fair. He also competed in multiple Arctic Winter Games, earning medals in indoor soccer.
Lehnhart continued his soccer career at Amherst College, where he was a four-year varsity player for one of Division III’s premier programs. He helped lead Amherst to the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championship—scoring in the title game—and was later named aD3soccer.com All-American. His coach remarked after his All-American season, “Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”
Beyond statistics and championships, Lehnhart’s character has consistently defined him. As one mentor noted, “He’s still the same good person that he was when he left (Juneau). He’s continued to put others ahead of himself and treats referees with respect, treats opponents with respect.”
A leader in every arena—soccer, baseball, basketball, football, tennis, academics, and community—Jackson Lehnhart represents the very best of Alaska high school athletics. His record-setting performance, championship pedigree, and unwavering humility make him a deserving member of the Alaska High School Hall of Fame.
